How to improve your investor outreach by 2500%

Here’s how to improve your investor outreach by literally 25x (no hyperbole!)…

Dori Stein raised more than $30m for his last startup, and he’s obsessed with creating a part-automated fundraising process that actually works.

Here’s what he told me:

Emailing investors you don’t know almost NEVER works. The response rate is shocking: approx. 1 call from every 1,000 cold emails sent. And the conversion rate is even worse, because there’s no trust…

It’s essentially a waste of time.

So, instead of cold emailing investors directly, try this…

Find the investors that fit your business, then scrape a list of the companies they ALREADY invested in. Get the contact details of the FOUNDERS of those companies…

PITCH THEM.

They’re entrepreneurs. They rarely get requests from fellow founders, and they are way more likely to accept your call — around 1 in 20 (5%).

Tell them what you’re building, explain why it’s relevant, and ask if they would introduce you to their investors. With practice, you’ll find that as many as half will make the intro (50%).

That’s a 2.5% overall conversion rate (5% x 50%) to a WARM INTRO, as opposed to a 0.1% conversion rate to a call with someone you emailed cold.

What would you rather do?

P.S. Pro tip: give the founder a pre-written intro email to forward on — they’ll be more likely to do it, because it’s easier, and you control the narrative.
